The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the k+lling of Mr. Ezekiel Imoleayo Adeniran, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.
Police spokesperson Olusola Ayanlade disclosed the tr+gic incident during a phone conversation with Channels Television, stating that Adeniran was killed in the early hours of Thursday, July 17. The case was initially reported at the Fanibi Division in Akure.
“I can confirm to you that the man was k+lled,” Ayanlade said. “From available information, two men emerged from the bush and forced a substance into another person’s mouth. I cannot confirm if the substance was p+isonous—only an autopsy will determine that.”
The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. Ayanlade urged the public to come forward with any useful information that could help identify and apprehend the suspects.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Isaac Oluyi, also confirmed Adeniran’s d+ath, describing it as a devastating loss that has left the UNIMED community in mourning. He noted that the late registrar was active at work as recently as Monday, July 14.
Adeniran was appointed as the third substantive Registrar of UNIMED on January 6, 2025, and served in that role until his untimely d+ath. His remains have been deposited at a nearby hospital morgue pending further investigation and autopsy results.
