According to a report by Daily Trust on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State and ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, has addressed the public following his recent encounter with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stating firmly that he will not be intimidated or silenced by any institution or political force.
Speaking in Sokoto after returning from what he described as a “brief visit” to the EFCC, Tambuwal confirmed that he was invited by the anti-graft agency and voluntarily honoured the invitation on August 6.
He explained that after an initial round of questioning, he was asked to return on August 10 and 11 for further interrogation.
During his follow-up visit, Tambuwal said he was subjected to hours of questioning and, upon requesting to leave, was told he must provide two sureties.
The conditions specified that the sureties must be directors in the Federal Civil Service with letters of introduction from their ministries.
He said he was surprised by the demand, given his public service record.
Tambuwal questioned why his credentials — which include being a former Speaker, two-term governor, serving senator, and recipient of the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) — were not enough to grant him bail on self-recognition.
Tambuwal said, “I told them to go back and tell the chairman of the EFCC that I am a former Speaker of the House of Representatives with an unblemished record, a two-term Governor of Sokoto State, a serving Senator, and a Commander of the Order of the Niger. I should be allowed to go on self-recognition.”
Despite appeals from his legal team, which included three Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), EFCC officials declined to ease the bail requirements.
