Police in Rivers State have arrested Pastor Ifediorah Onyeibor Joseph for allegedly subjecting children, including minors, to inhumane treatment.
Command spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Oko said in a statement that 20 children were rescued after a disturbing video of the incident surfaced online.
According to police, the pastor had gathered the children for a three-day “spiritual cleaning” programme in his church, claiming the Holy Spirit inspired him to carry out the exercise.
“Upon receiving the information, operatives of the Rivers State Police Command, through coordinated intelligence, arrested the pastor and several church members at the scene,” Iringe-Oko said.
She added that an investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident, with further updates to follow.
