Whether The Govt Wants To Conduct Credible Elections Or Not, One Thing’s Certain, Time Is Up -Amaechi

Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has officially announced his intention to run for president in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

His declaration, made during an interaction with journalists in Kano on Wednesday, was reported by The Cable on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Amaechi’s entry into the presidential race signals his return to frontline politics after a period of relative silence following his tenure as minister under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Having previously contested for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2022, Amaechi is now shifting his political ambition to the ADC, a move that could alter political dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking to the media, Amaechi made it clear that he has no intention of stepping down for any contender within the ADC.

He insisted that his years of experience in both state and federal governance make him a more capable candidate compared to others eyeing the same position. According to him, Nigeria is at a critical juncture and requires tested leadership to navigate its challenges.

“My time in public service, both as governor and minister has prepared me to confront the country’s pressing issues head-on. I have the knowledge, the capacity, and the will to lead Nigeria in a new direction,” he stated.

He further described his candidacy as a new opportunity for Nigerians to embrace change and break away from traditional party loyalties. Amaechi argued that his track record demonstrates a commitment to national unity, development, and pragmatic leadership.

Addressing ongoing speculation about his political strength in Rivers State, Amaechi dismissed claims that his influence has waned, particularly in light of his long-standing rivalry with Nyesom Wike, the immediate past governor of the state and the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
