Female Corps Member Assaulted in Anambra by Vigilante Group Demands Redeployment Over Safety Concerns

A serving corps member, Jennifer Edema Elohor, has cried out for help after allegedly being a+sa¥lted by operatives of the Udo Aghi Vigilante Security Outfit in Anambra State. The July incident has reignited fears over the safety of youth corps members deployed to volatile regions.

Through their lawyer, Barrister Cyrus Onu, the corps members petitioned the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), demanding immediate redeployment from Anambra. They argue that the attack not only end@ngered their lives but also highlighted the broader insecurity in the state.

In their petition, they alleged that while pursuing justice, they have continued to face thre@ts and int+midation, leaving them vulnerable in a hostile environment. One of the corps members, who spoke anonymously, said: “Our insistence on seeking justice has made us targets.”

Despite formally requesting redeployment, they claim NYSC has responded with thre@ts of disciplinary action, citing the scheme’s bye-laws, instead of offering protection.

The corps members are now appealing to relevant authorities and human rights groups to intervene, stressing that their safety should not be compromised in the name of national service.
