14 year old dies after breast enlargement goes wrong.
Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo, a 14-year-old from Mexico, d+ed on September 20, 2025, after a bre@st enl@rgement s¥rgery reportedly organized by her mother’s boyfriend in Tijuana. The procedure was carried out without the knowledge or consent of her father, Carlos Arellano.
Paloma suffered serious complications that caused cardiorespiratory arrest and brain swelling. She was pronounced d+ad shortly after. However, her d+ath certificate cited “cerebral edema caused by a respiratory illness,” a claim her father strongly disputes. “Her d+ath certificate falsely stated ‘illness’ as the cause of d+ath in an attempt to cover up the truth,” Carlos said, adding that the unusually fast issuance of the document made him suspicious.
During the funeral, relatives noticed Paloma’s chest looked different. “At the funeral, some relatives told me her bre@sts were larger than what she had before, and when I mentioned it to her mother, she told me it wasn’t true,” Carlos told prosecutors. He later examined her body with family members and confirmed his suspicions. “Sure enough: she had bre@st implants. We have photographs of the implants and the sc+rs. We immediately requested an autopsy,” he said.
Authorities have since identified the surgeon as Dr. Víctor Manuel, a 45-year-old from Durango who was romantically involved with Paloma’s mother. He has been suspended by the Mexican Association of Plastic, Aesthetic, and Reconstructive Surgeons while the Durango State Prosecutor’s Office investigates.
Durango’s Attorney General, Yadira de la Garza Fragoso, confirmed the probe. “We are investigating a probable lack of care on the part of the mother for placing a minor who was under her care and custody in risky situations,” she said.
The case has fueled public concern over unregulated cosmetic procedures involving minors. Though Mexico has no national law explicitly banning surgery on those under 18, such operations normally require written consent from both parents. A final autopsy report is still pending.
