‘Rivers no go area, your hand will burn’ — Wike warns Senator Basiru over Fubara

The internal crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appears to be far from over, as fresh developments suggest that a faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is allegedly plotting to obstruct the party’s planned national convention.

According to reports by The Sun, the PDP leadership has been putting final touches on preparations for its much-anticipated convention, which is scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, this November.

However, behind the scenes, mounting resistance from Wike’s loyalists is threatening to derail the process and deepen the existing fissures within the party.

Despite repeated calls for unity and internal reconciliation, Wike’s group is reportedly unwavering in its demand that certain South-South Zonal executives believed to be aligned with the minister, be formally recognized by the party’s leadership.

Insiders say this demand has become a key point of contention, with Wike insisting that no progress can be made until it is met.

“There will be no peace in the PDP until this injustice is addressed,” Wike is reported to have maintained, according to sources close to the faction.

The PDP’s national leadership, however, has pushed back firmly.

National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba recently hinted that the party would not hesitate to invoke disciplinary provisions of its constitution if any member continued to act in a manner that undermines its collective objectives.

Though he did not mention Wike by name, the remarks were widely interpreted as a veiled warning to the former Rivers State governor.

Within the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), frustration is growing. Prominent figures such as Deputy National Youth Leader Timothy Osadolor and former South-West National Vice Chairman Eddy Olafeso have voiced concerns about Wike’s growing influence and what they describe as his repeated overreach.
