Ikenga Ugochinyere has raised serious concerns about FCT Minister Ahmadu Fintiri’s leadership as chairman of the PDP national convention committee. In an interview on Symfoni TV, he warned that unless decisive action is taken by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), the convention risks failure.

According to Ugochinyere, the appointment of Fintiri has created doubts among lawmakers and governors who have supported the party, with many questioning whether he can conduct a fair and credible convention. He argued that Fintiri’s loyalty to Damagum and Wike could compromise the process, creating divisions within the party.

He highlighted the stakes for the PDP, explaining that the convention is a critical test of leadership. The party’s ability to unify and maintain trust among its members depends on decisive leadership and discipline. Without action, key lawmakers and governors may leave, weakening the party ahead of future elections.

Ugochinyere urged the NWC to assert control, enforce discipline, and make leadership adjustments to restore confidence. Only by taking decisive steps—appointing a substantive chairman from North Central, disciplining erring members, and resolving internal disputes—can the party demonstrate seriousness and prevent fragmentation.

He also warned of immediate consequences, noting that 40 lawmakers who have confided in him are reportedly ready to leave the party in the coming days, alongside two governors. He stressed that the PDP must act quickly to maintain credibility and ensure the convention is successfully conducted.
