Christine Pelosi, daughter of retiring U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, launches bid for California State Senate as her mother prepares to bow out after 40 years in Congress

Christine Pelosi, daughter of retiring U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, has announced she is running for the California state Senate to represent San Francisco.

In a video shared on X, Christine Pelosi said she will fight for consumer rights, women’s rights, immigrants, g¥n v+olence survivors and “our most vulnerable communities.”

“When our freedoms are under attack, we speak up, we f+ght back and we organize,” she said.

Her announcement comes days after Nancy Pelosi — the first and only female Speaker of the U.S. House — revealed she will not seek reelection next year after representing San Francisco since 1987.

Though many speculated Christine might run for her mother’s House seat, she is instead aiming for the 11th District in the state Senate, currently represented by Sen. Scott Wiener. Wiener is not up for reelection until 2028, opening a competitive path for Pelosi.

Christine Pelosi, 59, previously chaired the California Democratic Party’s Women’s Caucus for a decade and now serves on the Democratic National Committee’s executive committee.

An attorney, she also served as special counsel in the Clinton administration.

Before Nancy Pelosi’s retirement announcement, the House race in her district was already crowded, with Saikat Chakrabarti and Wiener previously launching campaigns.
