Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa, chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) does not have the political power to win the 2027 elections unless it relies on the influence of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Speaking at a press briefing at the NNPP state headquarters, Dungurawa said the APC at both state and national levels had lost focus and direction, which he said is why they keep reaching out to Kwankwaso.
According to him, “These APC people are weak and confused. They know without Kwankwaso, they will not win in 2027. They keep telling the public they are in talks with him. They need him. But he is only concerned about the welfare of Nigerians.”
He said reconciliation was always possible in politics, but insisted that Kwankwaso’s recent meetings with different political figures were coincidental and not connected to any alliance talks.
Responding to questions about why the NNPP presidential candidate got only about 500,000 votes in Kano during the 2023 election despite claims of massive popularity, Dungurawa said the party was only seven months old at the time. He explained that the logo was not clearly printed on the ballot, awareness was low, and the party was new, but noted the party still won seats in Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Bauchi.
He added that the redesigned logo and wider acceptance would make 2027 a different story.
Dungurawa also said the party was strong internally ahead of its coming congresses, noting that most executives would keep their positions in line with the NNPP constitution.
Our constitution allows executives to serve two terms unless they defect, die, or face disciplinary issues. We believe in continuity and loyalty,” he said.
