Army Neutralises Four Militia, Arrests Police Officer in Taraba

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised four armed militia and arrested a police officer during renewed inter-communal clashes in Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State. The operation followed credible intelligence indicating a resurgence of long-standing land disputes between the Shomo and Wurkun communities.

According to a Sunday statement by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 6 Brigade, the troops responded swiftly to vi%lence in Usmanu Village, which had escalated into armed confrontations and property destruction, including house burnings. Upon arrival, soldiers came under fire from assailants from the Fadama axis, resulting in four att@ckers being neutralised.

The statement added that one Nigeria Police Force personnel found operating alongside the militia was arrested for investigation to determine his involvement.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the troops for their professionalism and courage, reaffirming the army’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements in Taraba State. He urged communities to support security agencies with timely intelligence.

The army assured residents of Karim Lamido and the wider state of ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability. The public is encouraged to remain calm, law-abiding, and report suspicious activities as operations continue under Operation Peace Shield, Operation Lafiya Nakowa, and Operation Zafin Wuta.

Subsequent searches led to the recovery of three Dane g¥ns, one fabricated AK-47 rifle, twenty-five rounds of 7.62mm special amm¥nition, and two motorcycles.
