Renowned NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina Gusso, and their two children,5-year-old Ryder and 14-year-old Emma tragically d+ed on December 18 when their private plane cr@shed during an attempted landing in Statesville, North Carolina. Emma was Biffle’s daughter with his ex-wife Nicole Lunders. Two other individuals were also on board.
Congressman Richard Hudson confirmed their d+aths on X, describing Biffle as “a great NASCAR champion who thrilled millions of fans” and “an extraordinary person remembered for his service to others as much as for his fearlessness on the track.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the crash to local media, noting the aircraft, a Cessna C550, was owned by GB Aviation Leasing LLC and under contract with Biffle. Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said the sheriff’s office, N.C. State Highway Patrol, and the FAA were handling the crash scene.
While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, adverse weather conditions were reported at Statesville airport. Accuweather Vice President Dan DePodwin noted heavy drizzle, a low cloud ceiling around 400 feet, and reduced visibility of less than two miles at the time of the accident.
The racing community mourns the loss of Biffle, remembering him for both his achievements on the track and his dedication to helping others.
