Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has described marriage as “overrated,” pointing to cases where couples who dated for many years end up separating shortly after getting married.
Speaking in a recent interview on Naija FM Lagos, Jegede said she remains open to remarriage but is not actively seeking it, noting that life has taught her not to rule out possibilities.
“I am open to remarriage if it comes, but I am not looking for it. I have learnt not to say ‘never’.”
Sharing her perspective on marriage, the actress said many long-term relationships tend to collapse once the marriage label is introduced.
“I think marriage is overrated. A lot of people who dated for 10 to 15 years, got married, and then broke up within 2 to 3 years. Sometimes, you wonder why such couples didn’t just remain unmarried. Because when they add the marriage tag, a lot of intolerance gets in the way,” she said.
Jegede suggested that cohabitation could be a better alternative for some couples, as it may reduce the pressure often associated with marriage.
“I think it is better to find who you love and just cohabit with them,” she added.
