Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has vowed that attempts to manipulate the 2027 elections will be firmly opposed, emphasizing the need for early verification and transparency in Nigeria’s electoral process. Obi made the remarks during a high-profile event in Enugu State, where he officially defected from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Addressing supporters, Obi stressed the importance of pre-election preparation, saying, “We still have a one-year window for everyone to go and verify the schools they attended. We do not want to return to court again only to be told it is a pre-election matter. The pre-election process should start now.” He urged all political actors to ensure their credentials are verified to prevent post-election disputes.
Obi also highlighted the broader stakes for Nigeria, pointing to rising poverty and unemployment, and argued that credible elections are essential for national progress. “We will resist rigging of elections by every lawful means in 2027,” he stated, calling on opposition leaders and citizens to act collectively to safeguard democratic integrity.
