Venezuela Solidarity Campaign in Nigeria Condemns Alleged U.S. Military Strikes

The Venezuela Solidarity Campaign in Nigeria (VSCN) has condemned the reported multiple str+kes by the United States military against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, describing them as “imperialist aggression” and a v+olation of international law.

In a statement issued on Saturday, January 3, the group said the att+cks represented “yet another v+olent attempt by U.S. imperialism to cr¥sh a sovereign nation that dares to resist domination, exploitation, and neoliberal control.”

The statement was jointly signed by Gerald O. Katchy of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Dimeji Macaulay of the Anti-Fascist Movement, Blessing Yusuf of the Federation of Informal Workers of Nigeria (FIWON), and Abiodun Emmanuel Fayemi of the African Farmers and Agricultural Practitioners (AFAP).

VSCN expressed concern over uncertainty surrounding the safety and whereabouts of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro following the reported strikes, stating that “targeting a sovereign state and its leadership through military force is not diplomacy, it is t+rorrism at the level of states.”

The group rejected claims that the action was aimed at promoting democracy or human rights, arguing that it was driven by strategic and economic interests, particularly oil. It cited past U.S. interventions in Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, and Latin America as examples of actions that led to “d+ath, d%struction, chaos, and permanent instability,” describing Venezuela as the latest target.

Drawing from Africa’s history of colonialism and foreign interference, VSCN said Nigerians and Africans recognize such patterns and stand with Venezuela’s right to sovereignty and self-determination.

The campaign demanded an immediate halt to U.S. military actions, transparency on President Maduro’s safety, the lifting of sanctions, and accountability for alleged v+olations of international law. It also urged the Nigerian government, the African Union, and Global South nations to oppose the att+cks, warning that “silence in the face of aggression is complicity,” while calling for global solidarity with Venezuela.
