Wike Dismisses Governor Fubara’s Jabs as Ijaw Group Switches Allegiance
According to report by Vanguard on Saturday, January 3, 2026, minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has launched a sharp rebuttal against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, stating that the same political structure now being derided as “barking dogs” played a decisive role in Fubara’s rise to power.
Wike made the remarks during a thanksgiving visit to Okrika Local Government Area, where he addressed supporters amid shifting political alliances in the state.
His comments followed the public decision of the Rivers State chapter of the Ijaw People’s Congress to withdraw its support from Governor Fubara and realign with Wike.
Speaking to a large crowd, the former Rivers governor said political hostility in the state was easing as former opponents were beginning to work together, insisting that there were no longer restricted political territories in Rivers.
Reacting directly to statements attributed to Fubara, Wike said the same political forces being mocked today were instrumental when Fubara was relatively unknown and eventually emerged governor.
He described the situation as ironic, noting that fate had brought the same players back into prominence.
Wike dismissed claims that his political camp lacked influence, arguing that electoral success depended on effective organization and mobilisation rather than speculative percentages.
He also defended his academic and political background, rejecting insults from critics whom he said lacked electoral credibility.
According to him, while some individuals repeatedly lost elections, he had consistently won key contests.
