There’s Something About Obi That Rattles APC, Imagine What Okpebholo Said The Other Day-Donu Kogbara

International multimedia journalist and former BBC correspondent, Donu Kogbara, has said there is something about former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, that unsettles the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kogbara made the remark while featuring on Prime Time on Arise News on Friday, February 27, 2026. According to her, Obi commands a unique and organic support base that many other Nigerian politicians do not possess, a factor she believes makes the ruling party uncomfortable whenever he appears on the political scene.

She argued that each time Obi visits any part of the country, the reaction from the APC suggests a sense of political anxiety. “There’s something about Obi that rattles the APC,” she said, adding that his popularity appears to transcend conventional party structures.

Kogbara recalled a recent incident in Benin, Edo State, where Obi was reportedly attacked and narrowly escaped harm during a visit. She maintained that while several politicians have visited the state without incident, Obi seems to attract heightened tension because he poses what she described as a significant political threat.

The journalist also referenced comments allegedly made months ago by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, suggesting that Obi should obtain clearance before visiting the state and warning him to take responsibility for any consequences otherwise. Kogbara described the statement as inflammatory and unnecessary.

She stressed that before and after then, several politicians have been visiting the state without obtaining clearance from the security agencies or the state government. Why then should Peter Obi take permission before visiting any state in Nigeria?

She concluded that Obi’s growing influence and the loyalty of his supporters continue to shape political discourse, especially as conversations about the next general election gather momentum.
