Pressure is mounting on Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, following fresh calls for an independent investigation into allegations linked to his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and Nigerian Law School records.

The demand was issued by the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), a leading youth socio-political group in the South-East.

In a statement signed by its President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Okey Nwaoru, the group called for a transparent probe by the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

COSEYL said the allegations raised serious questions about the Deputy Speaker’s enrolment as a legal practitioner and his participation in the NYSC scheme.

The group insisted that the issues must be treated with urgency and openness in order to protect the credibility of key national institutions.
