A routine court session in Edo State turned tragic on Tuesday when 52-year-old Madam Titilayo Akindele reportedly collapsed during proceedings and later d+ed, sparking shock among family members, lawyers, and members of the public.

Akindele had been arrested in the third week of January 2026 by the Edo State Command of the NDLEA, with assistance from a church member identified as IK, over alleged possession of a hard dr¥g known as “l+ud.”

According to her family, Akindele had repeatedly complained about her deteriorating health prior to the incident. Her son said she had informed them she was unwell and had lost strength. He added that the family had attempted to secure her release by offering ₦500,000 for bail, but this was reportedly declined, with authorities insisting she appear in court.

An eyewitness also stated that Akindele had contacted him earlier in distress, complaining about her condition. During the court session, she reportedly became weak and collapsed.

Following the incident, she was taken to Edo Central Hospital, where a medical report was expected. However, a family member alleged that the report was not made available to them. The relative further claimed that her condition worsened after the incident and that she was pronounced d+ad thereafter.

Eyewitnesses and some lawyers present at the court alleged that NDLEA officers did not provide immediate medical assistance when she collapsed, raising concerns about the handling of the situation.

An ambulance was later called to transport her from the court premises.
