The Gov Of Rivers State Cannot Appoint Commissioners; What Is The Fight Between Wike & Fubara - Akah

In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, Randy Peter Akah, a human rights activist, spoke during a live political discussion where he examined the ongoing political tension in Rivers State and its implications for governance and democratic stability in Nigeria.

During the interview, Akah stated, “The Governor of Rivers State cannot appoint commissioners; what is the fight between Nyesom Wike and Siminalayi Fubara?” He made the remark while referencing the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State and questioning how internal party conflicts have affected governance in the state.

He emphasized that the inability of a sitting governor to freely constitute an executive cabinet raises serious concerns about political interference and institutional independence. According to him, such situations weaken governance structures and limit the ability of elected officials to deliver on their mandates.

Akah explained that the Rivers State political crisis reflects a broader challenge in Nigeria, where personal and factional interests often override constitutional responsibilities and the will of the electorate.

He also noted that prolonged political disputes between key actors have created uncertainty in governance, affecting policy implementation and public service delivery.

According to him, citizens are ultimately the ones who suffer when political disagreements stall administrative functions, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, security coordination, and economic planning.

Akah further maintained that democratic governance requires respect for constitutional roles, stressing that no political disagreement should be allowed to paralyze the functioning of a state government.
