The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared a humorous yet sobering story about a “rapture scare,” using it to caution couples against going to bed with unresolved conflicts.

Speaking at the May 2026 Holy Ghost Service at Redemption City, the cleric stressed that the uncertainty surrounding the rapture should inspire peace in the home.

Recounting a trip to the United States, Adeboye said he woke in the middle of the night to find his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, missing from the bed. Assuming she was in the bathroom, he checked multiple toilets in the room and sitting area, only to find them empty.

Panic quickly set in.

“I sat on the bed, trembling,” he recalled. “In the cold air-conditioned room, I was sweating. I thought, ‘God, she’s gone and I’ve been left behind. What have I done?’”

The fear lingered until he suddenly remembered that his wife had not travelled with him on that trip.

The congregation burst into laughter, but Adeboye used the moment to deliver a serious message. Referencing the biblical teaching that “two shall be in one bed; one shall be taken and the other left,” he said this belief guides his commitment to marital peace.

“That is why I never go to bed with unresolved issues,” he said. “I don’t want God to take her and leave me behind.”

Married since 1967, Adeboye added that he and his wife remain deeply committed to reconciliation, insisting that no conflict is left unsettled overnight.

“The sun must not go down on your wrath,” he warned, urging couples to prioritise forgiveness and unity.

He concluded by revealing his nightly prayer: “Lord, if you return before morning, don’t leave us behind.”
