3 Nigerian students and a woman arrested for allegedly smuggling dr#gs in North Cyprus

Turkish Cypriot police team from the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate carried out a targeted search on courier packages at Ercan Airport on Thursday and found cannabis type narcotic hidden inside among chili peppers in a suitcase.

During the search, police stated that they found a substance believed to be a cannabis type dr#g, weighing approximately 5 kilograms and 200 grams, in 6 packages, hidden among red pepper in 3 separate bags, which were among the personal belongings of the first suspect, Margret Munenanji Erick Nkhoma.

Three other people, who are all Nigerian students and believed to be connected with the incident were arrested following the operation. They were taken to a court in Lefkosa on Friday on charges of Illegal dr#gs (Cannabis) Purchase, Import and Saving. Ozan Özder, the police officer who gave sworn testimony in the court, stated that all 4 suspects were involved in the crime. The black color bad which was in the possession of Margret Munenanji Erick Nkhoma was intercepted upon her enterance into TRNC at Ercan Airport by a police team held on March 3, 2022.

He said it was determined that the she was to deliver the said package through a wanted person in exchange for $500. During a search carried out in the apartment of one of the suspects, Patrick Ogochukwu Chukwuma, in Hamikoy, cannabis-type dr#gs weighing about 8 grams were seized in 14 separate packages in a cardboard shoe box.

He said nothing illegal was detected in the search made at the residence of Abbas Abubakar and Chinaza Raphael Uchendu. Özder stated that the investigation is continuing and that they are wanted persons still, he demanded that the suspects be detained for 3 days.
