The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed three policemen, who were involved in the forceful extortion of N153,000 from one Sheriff Adedigba, a student of the Lagos State University.
The command stated on Tuesday that the three policemen namely Inspector Sunday John, Sergeant Jimoh Asimiya and Sergeant Solomon Adedapo were found guilty after an orderly room trial and dismissed.
They were alleged to have extorted the said amount from the victim while he was travelling from Abeokuta to Lagos.
“I told them I am a LASU Student they told me to unlock my phone but I refused; they threatened to kill me if I didn’t cooperate with them. They brought out a shocker, so I obliged.
I opened my phone due to the threat from them and upon going through it, I was asked to pay the sum of N1,000,000 but I told them I didn’t have up to that amount.
They asked me to open my bank app, where they saw a balance of N288,000 and told me they would collect N250,000 out of it even without telling me what I did wrong,” Sheriff said.
After negotiation and pleading, the student explained that he was taken to a POS shop where a sum of N153,000 was transferred from his account. “The Paga guy asked me to delete the alert message.
He also asked me to delete the receipt on the app but I refused,” he added. The money has since been recovered and returned to the victim who was invited by the Ogun State police.
