A Florida couple has sued a fertility clinic after a DNA test allegedly revealed that the husband has a zero percent probability of being the biological father of their long awaited baby girl.
Natalie and Joshua Strong said they endured years of injections, hormones, medication and the heartbreak of a failed IVF attempt before finally welcoming their daughter in 2025.
However, their joy turned into devastation shortly after the baby’s birth when routine blood work raised questions about her biological parentage. A subsequent DNA test allegedly confirmed that Joshua was not her biological father.
The couple claims Brown Fertility in Jacksonville, Florida, mistakenly used another man’s Sp+rm to create the embryo that resulted in their daughter. The clinic has denied the allegation, according to reports.
“I just don’t understand how one little mistake like that could affect our whole lives forever,” Natalie told CBS News.
Despite the discovery, Natalie said her love for her daughter had not changed.
“I was so happy I had her and I love her more than anything in the world,” she said. But to hear that right after you have your baby is devastating.
The Strongs are now suing Brown Fertility and its lead physician, Dr. Samuel Brown, seeking answers about their daughter’s biological father and what happened to Joshua’s Sp+rm.
The couple said they also have three remaining embryos but do not know whose Sp+rm was used to create them.
Joshua further fears his Sp+rm may have been mistakenly used in another patient’s treatment.
“We have no idea if they still have it, if they’ve used it elsewhere,” he told CNN. If there are other potential children somewhere, we have no idea.
The couple began their IVF journey in 2023 after deciding to have a biological child together. Their first attempt failed before another round eventually resulted in their daughter.
“We finally got our beautiful baby girl, and it was the best day of my life,” Natalie said.
