I Would Not Allow Any of My Wives to Have a Second Husband; If I’m Responsible for D+ing for You, Then You Need to Be Committed to Me — Prophet Israel Ford Defend His Polygamous Marriage

US-based prophet Israel Ford has sparked conversations about marriage after stating that his wives, Lydia and ShaKayla, would not be free to marry other men as they are married to him.

The cleric, who previously made headlines after announcing his second wife to his congregation, made the remarks while responding to a question about whether his wives could have other husbands and whether his position was unfair.

When asked if Lydia and ShaKayla could marry other men, he replied:

“No. If they want another husband and not me anymore, then I’m not doing that.”

Addressing the possibility that people might consider his position unfair, Ford explained;

“People might say it’s unfair, but this is the way I look at marriage. Let me talk about monogamy. The husband does not have the same responsibility as the wife; he actually has the responsibility to d+e. Now, the wife, her responsibility is to just respect.”

He further explained why he believes commitment should be mutual, given what he described as a husband’s greater sacrifice.

“But he has the responsibility to d+e. Now, my thing is, if I’m responsible for d+ing for you but you only have to respect me, then that means I have the greater sacrifice in the game. Now, if I want to be d+ing for you, then you need to be committed to me.”

Ford also explained how he would approach a situation in which he wanted another partner or his wife wanted someone else.

“I’ll tell you what my plan is. Now, if I want someone else, it’s like, well, we can stay or we can go. But at the end of the day, that’s my rule. But if you want somebody else, then we can discuss that and we can separate peacefully.”
