Court Grants Actress Doris Ogala N30m Bail, Bars Her From Contacting Prosecution Witnesses

A Federal High Court in Lagos has granted Nollywood actress Doris Ogala bail in the sum of N30 million over cyberstalking involving Pastor Chris Okafor.

Justice Akintayo Aluko, in his ruling, ordered Ogala’s release on two sureties who must each provide a bond in the same amount. The judge, however, attached strict conditions aimed at protecting the integrity of the trial.

Ogala and her sureties are required to maintain good behaviour and must not att@ck, hara§§, intimidate or interfere with any prosecution witness, or engage in conduct capable of disrupting the proceedings.

The sureties are expected to own properly registered landed property in Lagos State and provide other required documentation, including letters from their employers confirming their credibility and stability.

Justice Aluko said the decision was made under Section 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, stressing that the court had to balance Ogala’s constitutional right to liberty with the need to protect the administration of justice.

Ogala had applied for bail through affidavits, arguing that her release would enable her to prepare her defence and continue her political campaign in another state ahead of the forthcoming elections. She also attributed her previous absence from court to health challenges, including a gynaecological surgery.

Ogala is facing a four-count charge under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024. Prosecutors allege that between September 2024 and March 2026, she published intimate photographs of Pastor Okafor without his consent and circulated damaging allegations against him.

She was also accused of using electronic communications to b¥lly and thre@ten the cleric and attempting to obtain property from him by threatening further publication of intimate materials.

Justice Aluko adjourned the case until March 25, 2027, for trial.
