A civil society group known as the National Good Governance Advocate has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of plotting trouble in Rivers State as he prepares to return to office after a six-month suspension.
In a video shared by SYMFONI TV, speaking during a press briefing, the group’s representative, Dr. Opialu Fabian Opialu, dismissed allegations of contract inflation and treasury looting made against the state’s Sole Administrator, Ibas Ibok, as “baseless, malicious, and politically sponsored.”
The group claimed that Governor Fubara’s suspension was meant to humble him, but instead, it has turned him into someone “driven by blackmail, propaganda, and hostility.” They warned that his return may not bring peace to the state but rather “a breeding ground for vindictiveness.”
What worries the group more is intelligence reports suggesting that Fubara’s political team is already preparing for unrest in Rivers. According to them, his allies are spreading false information, while also circulating inflammatory materials to stir up young people and push them into confrontation.
“His cronies have been overheard boasting of teaching Rivers a lesson once he reclaims Rivers’ office,” the group alleged. They fear that these actions could drag the state back into political violence and instability, something many residents hoped had been left in the past.
The group stressed that if these threats are not addressed, Rivers State could once again face chaos, threatening both peace and development.
