Somtochukwu: She Wouldn’t Have Died If The Floors Had Not Been Cemented -Neighbour

According to a report by Vanguard on Wednesday, September 30, 2025, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, an anchor with Arise News, tragically lost her life after sustaining fatal injuries from a fall during an armed robbery incident in her residential compound in Katampe, Abuja.

According to a neighbor who spoke to the press, Somtochukwu’s death might have been prevented if the compound’s floor wasn’t cemented.

The neighbor explained that the hardened surface intensified the impact of her fall from the second floor, leading to critical injuries. “No one can say exactly what part of her body hit the ground, but the hard surface made it worse,” the neighbor lamented.

The armed robbery, reportedly carried out by a gang of about 15 men, lasted for approximately one hour and thirty seconds. In the course of the attack, one of the compound’s vigilante guards was shot dead after allegedly refusing to cooperate with the assailants.

It was during the chaos that Somtochukwu attempted to escape by jumping from her apartment’s balcony. She was later found unconscious by a courageous neighbor who stepped out after the robbers had left.

In response to circulating rumors that the police refused to transport Somtochukwu to the hospital due to lack of fuel, a vigilante who witnessed the events dismissed the claims as false.

He confirmed that the police were not reluctant and in fact, assisted in rushing her to the hospital after meeting neighbors en route.

Despite efforts to save her, Somtochukwu succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Her untimely death has left family, friends, and colleagues in deep mourning, as questions remain about the safety and security of residents in highbrow areas like Katampe.
