Protesters in Kastina, president Buhari’s home state, have taken out their displeasure at the recent spike of bandit attacks in the state. On Tuesday morning, protesters in Yantumaki town, Danmusa local government area of Katsina state burnt a campaign billboard showing Buhari’s picture and APC logo.
Kastina, Kaduna, and Sokoto states have experienced a surge of attacks in the past few weeks. The attacks have continued unabated. In fact, the governor of Kastina, Aminu Masari brokered a peace deal with the bandits but pulled out of it seeing that the killings never stopped.
According to TheCable, the protesters reportedly barricaded the Katsina/Kankara major highway and blocked the road leading to the town. They were said to have been enraged by the kidnap of one Mansir Yusuf and his daughter by bandits around 1 am on Tuesday.
There are some lessons to learn from this protest. The Nigerian government has failed in its primary responsibility of the security of life and property. This is not a partisan article written with the intent of supporting PDP. There is no denying that even PDP was in power, things were not better than they are now. Insecurity, whether under APC or PDP has always been a problem.
