Wike: Whoever Is Trying To Stop A Moving Train Is Probably Also Trying To Commit Suicide- Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has warned anyone trying to disrupt plans for the Peoples Democratic Party’s upcoming National Convention, which is set for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. He said these actions are like trying to stop a moving train and could be seen as political suicide.

According to The Punch, he made these comments while speaking to reporters on Monday after starting up the PDP National Convention Transportation Subcommittee in Abuja. He promised that Oyo State would host the best convention in the party’s history.

After several months of challenges within the PDP, it has been reported that many well-known politicians have joined forces with the African Democratic Congress-led opposition coalition as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections. Those said to join this coalition include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, and ex-presidential hopeful Dele Momodu.

At the same time, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed a number of PDP leaders, such as Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and the party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa.

As the date for the PDP’s National Elective Convention draws closer, there are reports that Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri may also switch to the APC before the convention.

Meanwhile, friends of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, have expressed their unhappiness with the National Working Committee led by Umar Damagum. They have raised concerns about the South-South zonal structure, party leadership issues in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Plateau States, as well as the plan for micro-zoning at the convention.
