Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has formerly joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC), LailasNews can confirm.

Many had expected this move since Governor Obaseki resigned from the APC on the 16 of June 2020.

This was made known moments back by Obaseki himself, when he led some of his appointees and supporters to the PDP secretariat in Benin-City.

The leadership of the PDP had on Wednesday met with Mr Obaseki who is seeking a second term in office. He visited Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his Akwa-Ibom State counterpart, Udom Emmanuel.

Mr Obaseki was disqualified by his former party, APC, from seeking re-election allegedly for submitting questionable certificates.

In his reaction shortly after his disqualification by the screening committee chairman on Democracy Day, the governor said he would not appeal the decision.

A statement by his spokesman, Crusoe Osagie, described the screening exercise as a mockery of the democratic process.

It added that the governor had asserted that there was no way he would get a fair assessment in the run-up to the nomination of the party’s flagbearer in the election.

The Edo governor later announced his resignation from the APC.

However, the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, whom Mr Obaseki blames for his travails has now been suspended from office, following an appeal court ruling.
