Samuel Birma, an official of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has been killed by a mob in Adamawa State, after suspected drug dealers raised a false kidnap alarm.
According to reports, the deceased, alongside his colleague, were conveying the suspected drug dealers, arrested in Michika, to Yola, when they raised an alarm that the officials were kidnappers.
It was gathered that, all efforts made by the NDLEA officials in identifying themselves with the presentation of staff identity card fell on deaf ears, as mob descended on them in Hong.
Birma was beaten to death on the spot and his lifeless body was set on fire, while his colleague was macheted and sustained high degree of injury.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Adamawa State Command, Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed the incident, said an investigation has commenced to unravel those behind the act.
