Police officers in Celebratory mood discharge G+nshots as INEC declares Soludo Winner of Anambra Governorship Election

Police officers attached to Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, f+red shots into the air on Sunday moments after he was officially declared winner of the state’s governorship election.

Soludo secured a sweeping victory, winning all 21 Local Government Areas in the South-East state. According to results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate garnered 422,664 votes. His closest contender, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), finished far behind with 99,445 votes.

Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) followed with 37,753 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, John Nwosu, polled 8,208 votes. Labour Party’s George Moghalu recorded 10,576 votes, and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 1,401 votes.

After the State Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Omoregie Edoba, declared Soludo duly elected, a video emerged showing police officers firing celebratory g+nshots at the governor’s residence in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area.

The police are yet to issue an official response to the incident.
