Paystack Suspends Co-Founder Ezra Olubi Over alleged s+xual misconduct involving subordinate and others

Paystack has suspended its co-founder and CTO, Ezra Olubi, after an allegation of s+xual misconduct involving a subordinate surfaced on November 12, 2025.

The company confirmed the suspension to TechCabal and said a formal investigation is underway. Olubi did not respond to requests for comment.

“Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-founder, Ezra Olubi,” the company said. “We take matters of this nature extremely seriously.

Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation.” It added: “Out of respect for the individuals involved and to protect the integrity of the process, we will not be commenting further until the investigation is complete.”

The allegation has revived attention to tweets Olubi posted between 2009 and 2013, including s+xually explicit jokes about colleagues, references to photographing a coworker’s th%ghs, and comments involving m+nors and s+xualised anime characters.

One tweet from May 23, 2011, read: “Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. To¥ch a coworker today. Inappropriately.” The posts spread on X, increasing scrutiny. Olubi has not addressed them and deactivated his account on November 13.

The controversy comes amid broader discussions of workplace misconduct in African tech. In October, Pawa IT Solutions CEO Oscar Limoke was fined by Kenya’s Employment and Labour Relations Court over s+xual hara§§ment allegations.

Founded in 2015, Paystack is a major African startup, known for its 2020 $200 million acquisition by Stripe. The resurfaced tweets have raised questions about how senior leaders uphold stated values of transparency and kindness. Stripe has not commented.

“In line with our internal policies, we have established a fair, transparent, and structured review process to conduct a thorough investigation,” Paystack added.
