Nigerian police allegedly arrested Omoyele Sowore in Abuja

Human Rights activist Omoyele Sowore, and other activists were arrested in Abuja who were carrying out a peaceful procession to mark the New Year have been arrested by Nigerian security forces.

Sowore and other activists were arrested in Abuja by Nigerian police as they carrying out a peaceful protest to mark the New Year.

According to the report, eyewitnesses said policemen suspected to be with the Rapid Response Squad stormed Gudu junction in Abuja, injuring Sowore before carting him away with other activists at the location.

On Thursday, Sowore on Twitter has reportedly urged Nigerians to hold a crossover protest by picking up a candle and a placard showing their grievances against the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

This is not the first time Sowore was arrested by the Buhari administration. The activist was also detained and arrested for over 100 days in 2019 for calling for protesting.
