DPR seals five filling stations in Ilorin for overpricing product

On Tuesday The Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR,  sealed five filling stations in the Ilorin metropolis for offences bordering on overpricing, under dispensing and abscondment.

In a chat with newsmen in Ilorin after monitoring over 35 fuel station, the Comptroller, Ilorin field office of the department, Engr Sule Yusuf, dismissed insinuations of fuel scarcity and plans to increase fuel price in the country.

He said the DPR observed that operators seemed to be taking laws into their hands by selling above what the government has allowed them to sell especially for petrol.

“We have been going out to monitor before and we will continue to do that, today is just special, because, it is the price we are out to monitor, quality, quantity and pump efficiency.”

Yusuf said, “Two teams of the DPR officials went out Tuesday morning in different directions, we visited about 35 filling stations out of which two absconded and sealed.”

According to him, “They know the consequences, they will only be reopened when they show remorse, pay sanctions and comply.”

He said, about three filling stations were caught overpricing, adding that, they were forced to bring the price down to the normal range and they have complied in order not to cheat the public.

Engr Yusuf, who advised consumers to watch out so that they are not short-changed, urged them to report any station that sells above the window range of N162 and N165 per litre.
