The Lagos State Police Command has debunked earlier reports that the fighting in the Iyana Iba/Alaba Rago area was between the Yoruba and Hausa, saying it was among commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known as Okada riders, over tariff increment.

There were widespread report on the social media on Monday morning that the fighting that took place was between some Yoruba and Hausa residents of Iyana Iba, Alaba Rago and Ojo area.

The fracas according to earlier reports, began when Hausa motorcyclists gathered themselves to protest constant harassment by the road union members after a Hausa motorcyclist was allegedly beaten and stabbed to death.

The fight which began with an exchange of stones between members of the union and the motorcyclists, was said to have degenerated into a full-blown crisis, as sporadic gunshots were heard at the scene.

Shouts of “e no concern una”, was barked at passerbys, as supposed members of the road union, tried explaining to whoever cared to listen, that the fight was between “us and aboki dem”.

However, the Lagos State Police Command, in a statement which also said normalcy had been restored to the area, disclosed that the fighting was among the commercial motorcycle riders.
