Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, has filed a formal petition with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) against Ahmed Farouk, Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), alleging corr¥ption and financial misconduct.
Submitted on December 16 through his lawyer, James Onoja, SAN, the petition requests the arrest, investigation, and prosecution of Farouk for allegedly living beyond his means as a public official. The petition was received by ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN.
Dangote claims Farouk spent over $7 million on the education of his four children in Switzerland over six years without lawful income to justify the expenditure. He provided the names of the children, their schools, and the amounts paid to support his allegations. The petition further accuses Farouk of diverting public funds for personal gain, contributing to recent public outcry and protests.
According to Dangote, Farouk’s total earnings in the public sector cannot account for the $7 million allegedly used for his children’s education. The petition cites sections of the ICPC Act, noting that ab¥se of office, emb£zzlement, and corr¥pt enrichment are punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment without an option of fine.
Dangote emphasized that the ICPC is well-positioned to investigate and prosecute financial crimes and urged the commission to act decisively to uphold justice and protect the integrity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He also pledged to provide evidence in support of his claims against Farouk Ahmed.
