Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has vehemently said tweeting is a human right and his church will continue the platform, as against a ban by Nigerian President, Muhammad Buhari.
Taking to the same social media platform, Mr Adeboye said the prohibition of Twitter use by the Buhari regime violated international rights conventions and would be disregarded by his church members.
The tweet read;
“The Redeemed Christian Church of God is domiciled in more than 170 nations and territories. The tweets here are in accordance with Article 19 of the United Nations universal declaration of human rights.”
The standoff between the federal government of Nigeria and the micro blogging platform seems to be at the peak as the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), ordered all broadcasting stations in Nigeria to suspend the use of Twitter.
This was contained in a statement issued by its Director General, Armstrong Idachaba, on Monday morning.
Mr Idachaba said television and radio stations are advised to de-install twitter handles and “desist from using twitter as a source (UGC) of information gathering for News and programmes presentation especially Phone-in.”
