Nigerian Army Arrests Notorious B@ndit Leader in Benue–Taraba Axis

Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested a notorious bandit leader linked to multiple cases of kidn+pping and armed r+bbery along the Benue–Taraba axis.

The suspect, identified as Fidelis Gayama, was apprehended on December 21, 2025, during a precision, intelligence-driven operation conducted by troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari at Vaase Community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Gayama was described as a high-value target who had been on the wanted list of security agencies for a long time. Preliminary investigations linked him to Aka Dogo, a wanted armed group leader, and identified him as the ringleader of a cr+minal network operating along the Kente–Wukari Road and nearby border communities.

The Army added that officers of the Nigeria Police Force at the Vaase Outpost confirmed that the suspect had earlier been declared wanted by the Beji Police Division in Ukum Local Government Area.

Gayama is currently in military custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution. Commending the troops, the Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, described the arrest as a major blow to cr+minal networks and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information.
