Officers of the Lagos State Police Command have started arresting protesters at the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Lagos, venue of the June 12 Democracy Day protest.

The youths, who gathered at the Gani Fawehinmi Park in the area to protest against insecurity and bad governance in the country were dispersed by the police.

Several groups fixed rallies for today to express dissatisfaction with the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

They also planned to march against the annulment of the June 12 presidential election by the Ibrahim Babangida regime.

Moshood Olawale Kashimawo (MKO) Abiola, the presumed winner, was arrested in 1994 on treason charges after declaring himself President. The late business mogul died on 7 July 1998, the day he was due to be released from prison.

In Ojota, police operatives fired tear gas and shot in the air to disperse protesters while footage showed some officers dragging a civilian away.
