The body of Dr. Cletus Iwuagwu, a 71-year-old Nigerian doctor and university professor, has been found weeks after he went missing in Springfield Township, Ohio.
Dr. Iwuagwu was last seen on Nov. 24 after being discharged from a local hospital and returning home. He was reported missing the next day when family members were unable to reach him. Surveillance footage later showed him near his home in Holland at about 2:15 a.m. on Nov. 25.
After weeks of search efforts involving law enforcement officers, drones, K-9 teams, and volunteers, authorities discovered his body on Dec. 25 in Orchard Lake near Stone Oak Country Club. The Springfield Fire Department recovered the body, which was later identified as Dr. Iwuagwu.
The Lucas County Coroner’s Office said an autopsy confirmed he d+ed from drowning, noting that there were no signs of trauma or foul play. Officials added that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding his d+ath.
Dr. Iwuagwu was a professor at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences and a geriatric medicine physician with UToledo Health. He was widely regarded as a respected medical professional, and members of the community expressed sadness after weeks of uncertainty surrounding his disappearance.
