Swiss authorities say sparklers attached to champagne bottles likely triggered the d+adly fire that ripped through a crowded bar in Crans-Montana on new year’s day, k+lling 40 people and inj¥ring at least 119 others.
Investigators believe the sparklers were raised too close to the ceiling, causing flames to spread rapidly at Le Constellation, a popular bar with a capacity of up to 300 people. The exact number of patrons present remains unclear.

The probe is focusing on the bar’s fire safety measures, building materials, ceiling compliance, and whether the venue exceeded its approved capacity. Prosecutors are also assessing possible criminal charges.
Officials confirmed the bar had multiple exits but said it is unclear if the emergency exit was open during the f+re.
Victim identification is ongoing. Of the 119 inj¥red, 113 have been identified, including Swiss, French, Italian, and Serbian nationals. Many remain in critical condition, with around 50 transferred or awaiting transfer to specialised burn centres across Europe.

A national mourning ceremony is scheduled for January 9 in Crans-Montana as investigations continue.
