Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the lead Council to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has been awarded the sum of N52m by a Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State.

The court led by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, gave the ruling following the invasion of the lawyer’s home by security operatives of the Federal Government.

This judgment came two years after security agents invaded Ejiofor’s home during the burial of his brother in Oraifite.

According to the judge, the security operatives grossly violated the lawyer’s fundamental rights and consequently awarded the sum of N50m against the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Army and other security agencies.

The money is compensation for the gross violation of Ejiofor’s rights.

The court also awarded N2m as cost for the action against the Police and the Army.

In a statement he made available to reporters on Friday, titled, ‘Justice delayed is not always justice denied,’ Ejiofor said his house was on December 2, 2019, attacked by security agents while he was burying his late elder brother, Rev Chukwukpelum Ejiofor.

He recounted that during the invasion, the security operatives killed four persons in his compound and burnt down all the houses within his ancestral home.

“Justice Dimgba of Court No 2, Federal High Court Awka Judicial Division awarded me the sum of N50m against the police and Army and N2m as cost for the action still against the police and Army, which is cumulatively N52 million. I instituted a suit for the enforcement of my fundamental rights grossly violated by the said security agents,” the lawyer said.

“The Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State, on Thursday, December 2, 2021 delivered a well-considered judgment in my favour.

“The judgment may have been delayed, but the fact that the court found that my rights were grossly infringed upon, will go a long way to assuage the pains and trauma I have been passing through in the past two years, on account of that terrible and heart-wrenching experience.

“I return all glory to the Almighty Chukwuokike Abiama. May the spirits of the innocent souls killed in that bloody invasion continue to haunt those who killed them till the end of time. Isee!!!”
