Court remands Nigerian man allegedly found in possession of drug worth N20m in South Africa

The Westonaria Magistrates’ Court in Johannesburg on Wednesday, February 23, remanded a Nigerian man, Charles Chukwudi, charged with possession of drugs worth approximately R750 000, illegal dealing in drugs, and contravention of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act, in custody pending investigation.
Police spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu in a statement, said that the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Johannesburg received intelligence regarding suspicious illegal drug dealings in the Westonaria precinct, west of Johannesburg.
Police kept surveillance at the positively identified premises on Sunday, 20 February 2022, and pounced on the suspect who was on his way out.
Upon searching the suspect,43, the investigation team found about 40grams of suspected cat drugs, in his possession.
Investigation team proceeded to the dwelling where more than 350grams of suspected crystal meth drugs as well as additional 175grams of cat drugs were found inside plastic bags ready for distribution.
Chukwudi was immediately apprehended and charged.
During his first court appearance on Monday, the court postponed the case to Tuesday, 22 February 2022, for legal representation.
Today the court remanded Chukwudi in custody pending investigation and the case has been postponed to Friday, 25 February 2022 for a formal bail application.
