Fresh details have emerged surrounding the d+ath of Brigadier-General O.O. Braimoh, who was k+lled during a vi%lent att@ck by terr+rists on a military base in Borno State.

Military sources told SaharaReporters that Braimoh attempted to escape the ass+ult but was trapped due to a malfunctioning armoured vehicle.

“During the att@ck, the Brigade Commander, O.O. Braimoh, tried to manoeuvre his way out in a b¥lletproof vehicle. Unfortunately, the vehicle failed to start, which led to his capture and eventual k+lling by the insurgents,” one source revealed.

The source also pointed to alleged negligence and corr¥ption among senior military officers, suggesting that funds allocated for vehicle maintenance and fuel are sometimes mismanaged.

“The Federal Government releases funds for vehicle upkeep and fuel, but some commanders fail to use them appropriately. If a vehicle develops a fault and junior officers report it, they are often told to ‘manage it.’ Fuel requests are frequently ignored,” the source said.
“The armoured vehicle Braimoh attempted to use had mechanical issues, and such lapses are common in emergency situations.”

Earlier reports by SaharaReporters indicated that f+ghters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a Boko Haram faction, attacked a military formation in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area, Borno State, on Wednesday night.

The insurgents reportedly stormed the base with heavy g+nfire and expl%sives, k+lling an unspecified number of soldiers, including Braimoh, and leaving several others injured or missing.

“He was k+lled alongside the Brigade Imam and several other officers. The att@ck lasted for hours. It is very unfortunate,” a military source said.

Despite repeated claims by the Nigerian military that the insurgency is largely under control, ISWAP has intensified att@cks in the North-East, particularly around the Lake Chad region.
