The National Treasurer of the Labour Party, LP, Mrs Oluchi Oparah, has accused the party’s National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, of engaging in anti-party activities.
The LP treasurer made the allegation on Tuesday while featuring on Arise Television’s Morning Show programme.
The statement is coming on the heels of her demand on Monday during a press conference in Abuja that Abure should render an account of party funds of over N3.5 billion, being proceeds of sale of forms and sundry fundraisers for the 2023 general elections.
Oparah equally alleged that Abure prevented her from exercising her constitutionally assigned role of handling the party’s accounts.
But disputing a statement issued by the Labour Party that she was being sponsored by persons outside the party, Oparah maintained her earlier stand saying, “They are masters at disseminating wrong information.”
The treasurer claimed that Abure has been in alliance and in talks with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, government in Edo State.
She said: “I want to state the fact that they are masters at disseminating wrong information. What do I mean by that? When issues like these are being played out, the right thing to be done is to carry out an investigation. And I am speaking from the place of strength, asking that the right thing should be done.
“Now, they are always quick to accuse someone of being sponsored, especially from the opposition party. I want to State it clearly here that if there’s anybody that has any alliance with the opposition, it’s the National Chairman of the Labour Party. Let him come out and say he hasn’t been in talks with the government of Edo State.”
