APC Governors go to war over PGF Power control

APC governors split over PGF leadership as Hope Uzodimma faces a rival faction led by Dapo Abiodun and Abdulrazak in a major ruling party crisis.
Hope Uzodimma clings to the PGF chairmanship as Dapo Abiodun and allies launch a rival faction, splitting Nigeria’s ruling party.

Touchaheart—Nigeria’s ruling party has a civil war on its hands. APC governors have split bitterly over who controls the Progressive Governors Forum — and neither side is backing down.

On one side stands Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, the sitting PGF chairman, flanked by Kaduna’s Uba Sani.

On the other hand, Ogun’s Dapo Abiodun and Kwara’s Abdulrahman Abdulrazak are quietly building a rival camp—one that threatens to splinter the forum entirely.

The PGF is not just a governors’ club. It coordinates policy positions and political strategy among APC state chief executives. Whoever controls it wields enormous influence inside the party.

Sources close to the negotiations say the crack runs deeper than leadership titles. Ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 cycle, ambitions are colliding.

Policy frustrations are boiling over. And governors who once stayed silent are now choosing sides.

Uzodimma’s loyalists are drawing a firm line.

“The forum has clear leadership elected by the governors,” a senior ally declared. “Any attempt to undermine it only weakens our collective strength at a critical time.”
But the opposing camp is equally defiant.

“The Progressive Governors Forum must reflect the will of the majority,” a member of the Abiodun-Abdulrazak group fired back. “We cannot remain stagnant.”
