The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria says plans are on the way to establish magistrate courts across the airports in the country to prosecute touts.

The Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, disclosed this at a meeting between FAAN management and heads of security agencies at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Friday.

According to FAAN, the meeting was organized to inform airport stakeholders of recent happenings at the airport, educate them on the strategic goals of the current management, and discuss ways of enhancing passenger experience and facilitation.

“There are people who have absolutely no business being at the airport, and they continue to create issues for us.

“We have an anti-touting taskforce, and as it is, we are going to start the prosecution onsite of those engaging in these illicit activities or loitering around the airport environment and harassing passengers.

“This does not happen elsewhere around the world, and the airport should be a safe space,” she explained.

This comes amid rising cases of harassment by touts in Nigerian Airports.

In May 2024, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo assured travelers that touts would be flushed out from Nigerian airports.

In 2022, FAAN arrested 90 touts in Nigerian airports.
