“Ordinary Primary She Did Not Make It” Wike Reacts To Aisha Yesufu’s Failed Senate Ticket

According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Sunday, May 31, 2026, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and activist Aisha Yesufu have engaged in a public exchange following her unsuccessful bid for the Nigeria Democratic Congress senatorial ticket for the FCT.

Yesufu, who joined the party after leaving the African Democratic Congress, declared her intention to contest on May 6. She later announced that the party would not conduct primaries for the FCT Senate seat, effectively ending her candidacy.

Speaking at a Rainbow Coalition luncheon in Port Harcourt, Wike dismissed her political ambitions, stating she was unable to secure victory even in what he described as a routine party contest.

“There’s one woman who said I am an appointee of government and has no business with appointees,” Wike said. “You speak grammar. Ordinary NDC primary she did not make it.”

He added that political discourse often loses substance when moved into public commentary spaces, saying, “It is easy for people to talk. They begin to churn out data from nowhere.”

In response, Yesufu posted a statement on her official X account, directly challenging the minister. “If dem born Wike well make e call my name with his full chest,” she wrote.

She further referenced past political developments involving Wike, alleging he had previously struggled within party primaries and later aligned with influential political actors after failing to secure key positions.

The exchange has drawn attention across political and social platforms, highlighting ongoing tensions between public office holders and civic activists over internal party processes and political credibility.

Party authorities have not issued any formal statement on the dispute, while reactions continue to circulate online among supporters of both figures.
